If you were following Twitter, Facebook, or any tech blogs today, then you know that the Apple event surrounding the announcement of the Apple iPad (insert feminine hygiene joke here) dominated todays news, and it will surely dominate tech news for the rest of the week. I followed along with sites such as Gizmodo and Cult of Mac for their live blogging of the event, and I must say that the iPad did not overly impress me, but I am a tech nerd. I have stronger opinions about technology devices than the average user. One piece of news that DID impress me was the price of the iPad: $499 for 16GB w/ Wi-Fi $629 for 16GB w/ Wi-Fi and 3G $599 for 32GB w/ Wi-Fi $729 for 32GB w/ Wi-Fi and 3G $699 for 64GB w/ Wi-Fi $829 for 64GB w/ Wi-Fi and 3G These numbers surprised me, because I was thinking Apple was going to brand it more like an alternative laptop and keep the base model price high enough to keep out the more price-conscious demographic, but at $499 for the base model, that will appeal to a lot of people in the market for a netbook and/or laptop alternative. The prices for the models with 3G means that those models will be able to connect to the Internet using AT&T cell towers, but that comes with a monthly price. It’s $14.99 for 250mb of data (which is nothing), and $30 for unlimited data. Although, there is NO contract involved for these data plans.
